Murder suspect Jeffrey Okafor finally arrested in Nigeria

Jeffrey Okafor (left), the Nigerian suspected of killing a young rapper and DJ named Carl Beatson Asiedu (pictured right),who was stabbed to death outside a nightclub in south London in 2009 (read story here) has been arrested in Nigeria. Okafor was arrested by Nigerian police on Tuesday September 23rd about a month after UK police looking for him launched a high-profile online appeal to trace him. Okafor was last seen on CCTV boarding a flight at Heathrow Airport using his brother's passport about two weeks after the murder. A UK police source said he's in police custody in Nigeria and proceedings are now underway for his extradition to the UK so he can face charges for the killing.

TB Joshua releases new footage of Synagogue building collapse

Maintaining his controversial stand that the tragic collapse of a building at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) was an ‘attack’, T.B. Joshua has released new security footage of the incident through Emmanuel TV’s official YouTube channel. The new footage from a security camera stationed in the church premises shows the bottom of the building as people walk innocently around the environment. Suddenly, a huge plume of smoke is seen coming from the side of the building, bystanders running for dear life as the collapse occurs in mere seconds. A still picture at the end of the shocking footage shows the extent of the disaster with ‘floors piled on top of each other’. Through a Facebook post, the embattled cleric reiterated that, while co-operating with the ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal collapse, “The church views this tragedy as part of an attack on The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations.” The SCOAN had earlier warned media not to pre-empt the investigation with ‘unconfirmed stories’ that ‘give the impression the collapse was due to structural failure’. A one-storey building which served as offices for pastors belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God collapsed in Edo state today. Rescue operation is currently ongoing at the site. Three people are said to have been rescued alive from the collapsed building while two bodies are still trapped under the rubble. More later

SAD!! Wife Conspires With Husband To Rape Their ’16-Year-Old House Help’ In Lagos

A housewife, Uzoima Patrick, and her husband, Ezechima, were on Wednesday, September 17, arraigned before the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over rape of their house help. PM News reports that the housewife, Uzioma, was charged along with her husband, Ezechima for conspiring with him to rape their 16-year-old house keeper. 42-year-old Ezechima and 37-year-old Uzoima, who reside at 14 Iyajesha Street, Amikonle in Alagbado, a Lagos suburb, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, child defilement and rape. The prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences between June 1 and June 4 at their residence. He alleged that the husband conspired with his wife to rape the teenage housekeeper. “Patrick conspired with his wife to defile the 16-year-old girl. Uzoima had overpowered the girl for the husband to rape her.” The prosecutor also said Uzoima threatened to stab the girl with a knife to force her to cooperate with her husband. He said the offences contravened Sections 137, 258 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 258 stipulates life imprisonment for rape. The couple has denied the charge. In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum. Further hearing in the case was fixed for 22 September.
